Daily devotion
Joy Dawns After Night
God’s displeasure is brief, but His favor endures, bringing joy even after our darkest moments.

“For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.”
Reflection
There are times when sorrow seems to envelop everything, like the long, dark hours of the night. Yet, this verse reminds us that God’s anger does not last forever, only a moment, while His favor is for a lifetime. It offers us a powerful hope: no matter how deeply we may weep, joy is sure to arrive—a morning that follows every night. This hope is not a vague wish but grounded in the nature of God, whose kindness and faithfulness surpass momentary trials. When troubles press in and tears come, we remember that God’s enduring love and favor remain upon us, ready to bring renewal and joy in due time.
Put it into practice
When sadness lingers, remind yourself that it is temporary and place your trust in God’s lasting favor; practice holding onto hope through prayer and reflecting on His promises.
A prayer for today
Loving God, help me to remember that my sorrow is not the end. Teach me to trust Your favor, which lasts forever, and to welcome the joy You bring each new day. Strengthen my hope and comfort my heart in times of weeping. Amen.
