The Enduring Power of Love

Faith, hope, and love are eternal virtues, with love surpassing all as the greatest that defines and sustains us.

But now faith, hope, and love remain—these three. The greatest of these is love.

Reflection

The apostle Paul highlights three enduring virtues—faith, hope, and love—that remain at the core of the Christian life. Among these, love stands universally above all, not because faith and hope lose their importance, but because love is the essence that gives life meaning and connects us deeply to God and others. Love transcends circumstances and time; it remains after our faith has grown and our hopes fulfilled. This love is patient and kind, seeking the wellbeing of others without self-interest. It mirrors God's own love for us, a love that is active and sacrificial. Embracing love shapes our relationships, guiding how we serve, forgive, and encourage. As we live in love, we reflect God’s character and partake in His eternal nature, making love the greatest and lasting virtue to cherish and pursue every day.

Put it into practice

Today, consider how you can express genuine love in your interactions—whether through patience, kindness, or encouragement—letting love be the greatest motivation behind your words and actions.

A prayer for today

Lord, help me to embody the love You desire—patient, kind, and enduring. Teach me to love others genuinely, reflecting Your heart in every relationship. May my life demonstrate that love is the greatest virtue, sustaining and guiding me through all things. Amen.
